Painted in thick layers of paint. Decoupaged with 17th century still life, the decoupage has been printed my myself in fade resistant ink designed to last up to 100 years before any fading occurs. The text reads in the chartreuse green of the undercoat. Finished with two hand painted hot air balloons. The whole thing has been heavily distressed all over to reveal the green undercoat and to age it. I aim to create the feel of a genuinely aged bohemian piece. Varnished with a floor varnish to create a durable finish.
This is a very elderly lady. The veneer has lumps and bumps and some shrinkage but all is sturdy and sound. There were a handful of historic woodworm holes but I have treated the whole piece to be on the safe side. There is a little shrinkage in the planks inside the drawers but again they are sturdy and sound and slide easily. One handle was missing so I've replaced this with a nicely mismatched handle with a similar patina from another piece.
